Bed & Breakfast Etiquette
In a world dominated by self-check-in and anonymous accommodations, it's refreshing to experience a hosted property and engage with people, both those hosting you and other guests staying at the same property.
First time staying at a Bed & Breakfast? A few tips on being a thoughtful guest:
• Communicate your arrival time:
B&Bs don't have a 24-hour front desk, so let your host know when to expect you.
• Respect check-in and check-out times:
These are set to allow your host time to prepare for the next guest.
• Be mindful in shared spaces:
Keep noise to a minimum and tidy up after yourself in lounges, patios, and dining areas.
• Honour breakfast hours:
Breakfast is often freshly made - arrive on time to enjoy it at its best.
• Share dietary needs in advance:
Hosts are usually happy to accommodate, but they need notice.
• Keep your room reasonably tidy:
Turndown service is not usually provided, treating the space with care is always appreciated.
• Say thank you:
A kind word, a note, or a thoughtful review goes a long way - hosting is personal at a B&B.
Luxury hotels, B&Bs, and other accommodations that stay busy all year and have excellent online reviews don’t happen by chance. There is a lot of thought put into the things they do and the way they do them that sets them apart from the competition.
"New trends and technological developments should never overshadow or replace the personal touch and influence that is at the heart of exceptional service. This one-to-one interaction is key. And getting this right and making a connection with people is perhaps the single most important reason guests return again and again and the business grows." - Rocco Forte
